Preparing Your Artwork
Before submitting any file, please read the following information regarding colour, resolution and file formats for images, and font information:
PRINT RESOLUTION (DPI)
For full colour or greyscale images that contain no text the resolution should be 300dpi at the size that the image is going to be used. If the image is enlarged later the resolution in turn will become lower and will not print correctly. If the image is to be printed in one colour, then it should be saved in greyscale mode. If the image is to be printed in full colour then it should be saved in cmyk mode.
If an image is saved for or downloaded from a website the resolution is usually too low and not suitable for print. When scanning, scan the image at the proper resolution and size (a minimum of 300 dots per inch).
LINE ART/GRAPHICS
Solid graphics are images that are solid black and white and contains no screening. For optimum quality the resolution should be 1000dpi and at the size that it is to be used. If the image is enlarged later the resolution in turn will become lower and will not print correctly. The image is saved in bitmap mode.
COLOUR
It is important to contact us and speak to our sales representatives regarding the type of printed material you want. Is the project one, two, three colour or is it full colour? How you set your file up for colour is very important.
Full colour is made up of cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
Spot Colours are made up of one colour or mixed colour inks.
JOB BLEED
When a colour extends to the edge of the page a BLEED
of at least 1/8 of an inch is necessary to ensure that when the job is trimmed to it’s finished size, the colour goes completely to the edge.
